Angolan Head of State pays visit to opposition politician
Luanda, ANGOLA, April 30 - President João Lourenço visited on Monday the Angolan politician Abel Chivukuvuku, who was admitted to hospital, in Luanda, since the 25th of this month.,
Abel Chivukuvuku was until recently leader of the Broad Convergence for Angola’s Salvation Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE). He is also a former cadre of the also opposition Angolan political party National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA).
"The visit I made today to Dr. Abel Chivukuvuku, who has been admitted to one of the hospitals, is nothing more than a simple gesture of solidarity to a fellow citizen whose services Angola needs," the president wrote on his Twitter page.
João Lourenço concluded his message by saying that "every Angolan is a fundamental asset for the aggrandizement of the country."
In Instagram and Facebook, the President of the Republic stressed "Angolanity goes beyond our political or cultural differences. Every Angolan is therefore a fundamental asset for the aggrandizement of the country. "
A note signed by his wife and his brother, Maria Victória Ferreira Chivukuvuku and Américo Kolombo Chivukuvuku respectively, points out that "Dr. Abel Epalanga Chivukuvuku received a surprise visit from the Head of State, João Lourenço, accompanied by some members of the Executive, a gesture that he thanks deeply ".
Abel Epalanga Chivukuvuku was born in Bailundo, central Huambo Province, on November 11, 1957.
He is a politician who has held prominent positions in UNITA for more than 30 years but left this party in 2012 to found a coalition of political parties known for short as CASA- CE.
The seasoned politician left CASA-CE leadership last February due to internal disagreements in the coalition.
The decision came as a result of deliberations by the coalition parties, following several meetings, after which they decided to nominate the then parliamentary whip of the coalition, André Mendes de Carvalho, as its president.
